2290 RT 189, Pine Plains, NY - Industrial - Addition

GKA Architects was retained by The Hudson Company, a reclaimed wood supplier, to design two 5,000 sf flanking additions to and redesign the facade and 4,000sf two-level interior office and showroom of The Hudson Company’s existing 20,000 sf facility. The Hudson Company's operations, which involves the sorting and milling of specimen reclaimed hardwood beams and planks, some of which are hundreds of years old and several yards long, required that the additions be designed with long transverse spans. After preliminary investigations with several steel truss designs as well as engineered wood frames, the Hudson Co chose a customized Manufactured Steel Building [MSB], built by Steelsmith Inc of Pittsburgh, PA. GKA led the project through Schematic Design, extensive Landlord and Local Planning Board Review, State Environmental Quality Approval [SEQR], Architectural and Structural Engineering Construction Documentation and Building Department Permitting, and Contractor Bidding with multiple MSB companies.
